Purchasing

Create a product while preparing a purchase order

Add a product and its supplier details from Purchasing, including products that do not yet have an official barcode.

Before you start

  • Purchasing → Add product; or a purchase order editor → Add new product
  • Your account needs permission to create products. Saving supplier links also requires permission to manage purchasing suppliers.

What success looks like

  • The product is saved in the catalog. If you used Create and add to order, the selected products or options also appear on the purchase order.

Quick start

The shortest path through this area.

  1. 1Click Add product in Purchasing, or Add new product inside a purchase order.
  2. 2Select Standard product, Variable product, or Master UPC product.
  3. 3Enter the Product name or Master UPC name, then choose Product type and Category. Outside an existing order, Supplier is optional; select one if you want to save its distributor details.
  4. 4For a Master UPC product, choose I have the shared code and enter it, or select It has not been provided yet.
  5. 5Enter the name, Store SKU, and UPC or barcode for each product or option. Add a Retail price if needed. If the barcode is blank, follow the form’s instructions for an internal code.
  6. 6If a supplier is selected, enter the Distributor SKU, Unit cost, Pack size, and Supplier minimum where offered. When adding the product to an order, also enter Quantity to order and select the children to include for a grouped product.
  7. 7If needed, enable the release schedule, enter the Release date and time, and choose whether to Show as Coming Soon.
  8. 8Click Create product or Create and add to order. Check any added order lines and quantities. Creating the product does not receive inventory.

Troubleshooting

Choose the symptom that matches what you see.

The official UPC is not known

Use the form’s missing-code choice or internal-code behavior. Update the barcode later from the purchase order or product editor.

The wrong child was added

Review Add this option or child product to the purchase order and remove the unwanted order line before saving.
