Create and post a manual journal entry

Create a journal entry with a date, description, and account lines. MintLGS checks that the debit and credit totals balance before allowing you to post it.

Before you start

  • Accounting → Journal Entries → New Entry
  • You need accounting view permission to open this section. Creating or changing accounts, entries, and recurring templates requires the appropriate accounting permissions.

What success looks like

  • The journal contains a posted entry with the date, accounts, and amounts you submitted.

Quick start

The shortest path through this area.

  1. 1In Journal Entries, click New Entry.
  2. 2Select a Quick entry layout or Start from scratch. If you choose a layout, review the accounts it fills in before entering amounts.
  3. 3Enter Date and Description.
  4. 4For each line, select Account and enter a Memo, Debit, or Credit as needed. Click Add Line for another account, or remove an unwanted line with its remove control.
  5. 5Check the totals and the Balanced indicator. The entry must contain at least two account lines with matching debit and credit totals.
  6. 6Click Post Entry and review the saved entry. Click Cancel instead if you want to leave without posting.

Fields and options
  • Quick entry: Fills in a starting layout for an expense, bank deposit, processor payout, owner draw or investment, inventory purchase, tax remittance, credit-card payment, or transfer. Review and edit the suggested accounts before posting.
  • Debit / Credit: Enter the amount for each account line. The form displays both totals and any difference between them.
