Accounting

Reverse a posted journal entry

Reverse an entry by creating a second entry with its debits and credits swapped. The original entry stays in the journal so you can follow the history.

Before you start

  • Accounting → Journal Entries → open a posted entry
  • You need accounting view permission to open this section. Creating or changing accounts, entries, and recurring templates requires the appropriate accounting permissions.

What success looks like

  • The journal shows a separate reversal linked to the original entry. The original entry is retained.

Quick start

The shortest path through this area.

  1. 1Open the posted entry and review its account lines.
  2. 2Click Reverse Entry if that action is available.
  3. 3Read the confirmation. MintLGS will create a new entry with the original debits and credits swapped.
  4. 4Confirm the reversal and wait for it to finish.
  5. 5Find both the original entry and its reversal in Journal Entries.

Troubleshooting

Choose the symptom that matches what you see.

The original entry is still there

This is expected. Reversing an entry adds an opposite entry instead of deleting the original.

The reversal failed

Read the error or restriction shown by MintLGS. Check whether a reversal already exists before trying again.
