Change a product barcode or generate an internal barcode
Add or change a product barcode, reuse a deleted product’s barcode, and resolve an already-assigned code.
Before you start
- Dashboard → Inventory → Products
- Your account needs permission to view products. Creating, updating, and deleting them require the corresponding product permissions.
What success looks like
- The barcode field shows the code saved for that product or option.
Quick start
The shortest path through this area.
- 1Open the product. For a variable product, expand the option whose barcode you want to change.
- 2Click Change barcode or Add barcode.
- 3Enter New barcode or UPC and click Save barcode, or click Generate internal barcode.
- 4If a conflict or reassignment message appears, read it before confirming. Barcode changes save immediately, without waiting for Update on the product form.
- 5Check the saved code and previous-barcode information. Print new labels if you need the new code on your stock.
How this area works
Reference information for the choices on this page.
Important details
- An existing MintLGS internal barcode beginning INT- continues to work on printed labels after a barcode change. The editor warns when an ordinary previous barcode will stop working.
- Canceling the outer product form does not undo a barcode already saved with Save barcode.
Troubleshooting
Choose the symptom that matches what you see.
The barcode belongs to a deleted product
After a product is removed from your store, you can recreate it with the same barcode. A barcode still assigned to another active product or option remains reserved. If the removed product still causes an already-assigned error, leave the attempted product in place and contact support with its name and barcode; do not delete unrelated products.
Barcode update needs attention
Read the inline message and verify whether the code belongs to another product or shared group. Correct the code or explicitly review the offered reassignment.
Previous barcodes could not be loaded
The current barcode can still be shown separately. Retry loading the history before making assumptions about an older label.
