Start, count, and close a cash-drawer shift
Enter the starting cash, record cash added or removed, and close the shift with a final count.
Before you start
- POS → More → Cash drawer → Drawer shift
- Your account needs permission to take POS payments. Discounts, transaction history, refunds, station settings, and cash-drawer actions may require additional permissions.
What success looks like
- An open shift shows its starting cash and recorded activity. A closed shift also shows the final count and any amount over or short.
Quick start
Choose the task you need. Each task has its own steps.
Start a drawer shift
- 1Open Cash drawer and check the selected checkout station.
- 2If no shift is open, enter Starting cash, add an optional Opening note, and click Start drawer shift.
Record cash activity or a count
- 1Under Record cash activity, select the movement or count you need. Enter Amount for cash added or removed, or Counted cash for a drawer count.
- 2If a Reason field is shown, choose a reason. Add a note if needed, then submit the entry and check the updated shift totals.
Close a drawer shift
- 1To finish the shift, select the closing action, enter Counted cash, and click Count and close drawer shift.
- 2Compare expected cash with counted cash and review any difference. You can find previous shifts under Activity → Recent drawer shifts.

Troubleshooting
Choose the symptom that matches what you see.

Opening the drawer and starting a recorded cash shift are different controls. Start the shift on Drawer shift.
The expected amount looks wrong
Review the station’s completed cash transactions and recorded movements, and confirm the selected station before entering a correction.
