Purchasing
Cancel an order or close its remaining units short
Cancel a purchase order or record that its remaining units will not arrive.
Before you start
- Purchasing → Purchase orders → order → Order exceptions
- Your account needs permission to view purchasing. Creating orders, editing them, marking them ordered, receiving deliveries, managing invoices or suppliers, voiding records, and exporting data have separate permissions.
What success looks like
- The order records the cancellation or closure and your reason. Units that did not arrive are not marked received.
Quick start
The shortest path through this area.
- 1Open the order and review its received, invoiced, and outstanding quantities.
- 2Open History & corrections. Under Order exceptions, select the available action: Cancel draft, Cancel order, or Close outstanding short.
- 3Enter the required reason for canceling the order or closing its remaining quantities.
- 4Click Cancel order or Close short to confirm. Click Keep order open to cancel the change.
- 5Check the order’s status and Activity. Use the history view to find closed-short, canceled, or completed orders later.
Troubleshooting
Choose the symptom that matches what you see.
The action is unavailable
Check the order’s status and your purchasing permissions. Orders with received stock may not allow the same cancellation options as unreceived orders.
Stock did not disappear after closing short
Closing outstanding units is different from reversing a posted receipt. Use the receipt reversal workflow for a mistaken receipt.
