Deactivate or reactivate a customer

Deactivate a customer to remove them from the active list while keeping their history. You can reactivate the same record later.

Before you start

  • Dashboard → Sales → Customers
  • You need permission to update customers to open Edit Customer or reactivate a record. Deactivation also requires permission to delete customers.

What success looks like

  • The existing customer record moves to the active or deactivated list. Their previous history stays with it.

Quick start

Choose the task you need. Each task has its own steps.

Reactivate a customer

  1. 1Open Customers. Use Active to find a current customer or Deactivated to find one you want to restore, then open their record.
  2. 2To restore a deactivated customer, click Reactivate Customer. Check that the same record returns to the Active list. Open Customer History and check that the history, credit balance, and notes stay with the record.

Deactivate a customer

  1. 1To deactivate an active customer, open Customers, find the customer under Active and open their record. Click Edit Customer, then Deactivate Customer. Read the confirmation and click Yes, Deactivate Customer, or Cancel to leave the customer active.
  2. 2Check the appropriate list and open Customer History. The existing history, credit balance, and customer notes stay with the record.

Troubleshooting

Choose the symptom that matches what you see.

The customer is missing from the active list

Check Deactivated before creating another record for the same person.

I only want to stop loyalty rewards

Open the customer’s loyalty membership and use Pause or End. You do not need to deactivate the customer to stop their rewards.
